Music:
Vare-Washington loves music! In addition to general music, students can perform in our concert choir, band, and orchestra, as well as drums and percussion.
Chior:
Vare-Washington Choir meets once a week and is made up of students from 4th to 8th grades. We perform at two concerts a year, and focus on a singing repertoire that develops the young voice. We learn additional musical concepts on top of what students learn in general music, and have the opportunity to showcase that at performances. Most importantly, we have tons of fun singing!
For more information on the V-W Concert Choir, contact Ms. Karst.
Wind Instruments/Strings/Percussion
Weekly lessons take place during the school day with 3 District Class Instrumental Music Teachers (CIMTs) – Mr. Katz (Band), Mr. Youssefian (Orchestra), and Mr. Costa (Drums/Percussion). Students are provided School District of Philadelphia-owned instruments, minimizing the costs of accessories for whatever instrument is selected.
Students can sign up for instrument lessons while the CIMTs are recruiting at the beginning of the school year. Orchestra lessons can start in 3rd grade, while Band and Drums/Percussion starts in 4th grade. Students are removed from their regularly scheduled classes to attend weekly lessons and can sign up to study only 1 instrument.
For more information on instrumental music lessons, contact our teachers:
